Moroccan flag (of sorts..) Morocco

In December 1999 Al knox, Adam Woodman (Woody), Ewen Tanner and myself went to Morocco for three weeks. We flew to Spain and spent a little time lazing in the south of Spain before we caught the ferry over to Tangiers (where we spent as little time as possible) for a couple of weeks in Morocco itself.  These are a selection of my photos from these three weeks. Unfortunately my camera packed up half way though the holiday so they are a bit biased to the first couple of weeks but when I get a copy of Al's I'll put some of those up as well. I haven't got a copy of the guide book so you'll have to forgive the spelling - let me know if you can remember better than I can.....

Three day tour round the desert:

We hired a mini-bus and driver (Mohammed) who carted us round the main things to see in the desert. The first day consisted of driving from Ourzazete to Merzouga, stopping at the two gorges on the way. The next morning we got up early to see the sun rise from the biggest dune in Morocco, Erg Chebbi, a few miles walk from Merzouga, and then driving to Zagora. The third day we drove back to Ourzazete up the Draa valley. The photos may well be a bit out of order and I may have a few geographical errors. If you can correct me, let me know.

The Atlas Mountains - Imlil and Toubkal:

Just before New Year's Day we made our way over to a village called Imlil high in the atlas mountains. We did a little bit of walking before hiring a guide (and his mate to carry and cook all our food), who led us up to a mountain hut halfway up Jebel Toubkal, The highest mountain in the north of Africa. We spent New Years Eve here, and made it up to the summit on New Year's Day - An amazing start to the year 2000. Unfortunately this is where my camera packed up so you'll have to wait until I get a copy of Al's for any photo's of the summit and anything we did afterwards.....
